Grandpa Absher started Absher Motor Sales in 1947 after serving his country in the Army Air Corps and teaching at the Energy School.  Selling cars started as merely a way to supplement his Army pay to meet the needs of his growing family.  Originally, only used cars were sold, then Nash Automobiles were added in about 1952.  Through mergers and acquisitions, Nash became Rambler, then American Motors, then AMC.  The Jeep line was added in 1972, Renault in 1979.  Mason and Imogene Absher retired in 1984.

Son Bill Absher grew up in the business, graduated SIU-C, and became active in the daily operations in the late 1950's.  Together with his wife Sandy Absher, they purchased the Chrysler Plymouth Dodge dealership in the same town and began planning for a state-of-the-art dealership to house all the automobile lines.  When the new dealership was complete, the third generation began looking for new growth avenues and the Nissan line of cars, trucks and vans was added in 2002.  Bill and Sandy Absher retired in 2004.

With many years of training, David and Kim Arnold as the third generation family members, have continued the family tradition of offering a good selection, great price, and excellent service.  David Arnold says: "We try hard to offer a big selection, work to meet the price and payment needs of the buyer, and then work hard to exceed the customer service requirements of our new friends."  Additionally, "You know we have a potential 4th generation crew in training right now" he said.  A new Marion Nissan showroom facility was completed in 2004.  Sales and service numbers have steadily increased year over year with the great Nissan product.
